DimensioN is the first, in the new class of business application development platform for non-programmers (business analysts, consultants, domain experts and IT support assistants). DimensioN eliminates the gap (semantic gap) between the business knowledge already present in the enterprise and the IT knowledge required to make it into a working enterprise solution. Dimension has two components Dimension Studio and Dimension Server. The application is modelled using the Studio by defining the data model, business rules, data access logic from external sources and workflow rules. No need to write any code in the Studio. Basic knowledge of using spreadsheet is sufficient to build models using Dimension. Dimension Server is a J2EE application server with ‘Enterprise Portal’ (JSR- 168) capabilities. The model is deployed into the Server using our “1-Click’ deployment option. The model is deployed as a J2EE application and exposed as a portlet. Multiple end users can concurrently access the application using a standard web browser like IE, FireFox.

The dimension models (applications) perform automatic persistence management, whereby the data entered by the end users are automatically captured in relational tables without any explicit database design or coding for saving and retrieving data between the models and the database. Dimension provides “web search” like free form searching of any key word occurrence within/across transactions, instead of parameter based searching present in conventional applications. Dimension performs work assignments to various users in the system using the embedded workflow engine. Workflow process state transition and user assignment logic can be implemented as business logic in the spreadsheet interface while modelling the application. Dimension provides default authentication mechanism and can also interface with existing enterprise directory services like LDAP, Microsoft Active Directory Service to provide ‘Single Sign On’ capabilities. Using the admin interface of the portal, web pages can be dynamically added and modified. Multiple portlets can be added and re-arranged in a single web page as per the wish of the users. Portal supports personalization for each of the end users. Creating user accounts, roles, groups and defining access to different portlets/applications can be performed using the admin interface. The portal server has ready made portlets for creating polls, RSS feeds, web search, news groups and many more. The portal also has the standard capabilities of a Content Management System (CMS). The CMS can be used to created static html pages that be published after necessary approval process. The Portal along with CMS offers a powerful way of interlacing both Dynamic Content (dimension models) and Static Content (static web pages) in a single user viewable page. Dimension supports import and export of data in various formats like CSV, XML, etc. Dimension supports attachments of document types like PDF, DOC, etc and all types of image formats. Dimension provides JCA connectors (including a SAP certified XI adapter) to provide integration with external systems. Dimension’s ability to bring in simplicity even in complex business application development makes it the ideal platform to develop applications for BPO, HR outsourcing, SAP , financial services, Insurance and Manufacturing customers.
